Jose Polanco is a Paralegal at SMB Law Group LLP, where he supports the firm’s attorneys on mergers and acquisitions and related corporate matters. He assists with transaction documentation, due diligence, corporate formation, and closing coordination for small business acquisitions, drawing on an international legal background and extensive experience in corporate operations and governance.

At SMB Law Group, Jose assists with the preparation and organization of acquisition agreements, disclosure schedules, transition services agreements, and other transaction documents under attorney supervision. He tracks open items, maintains transaction files, and coordinates deliverables across deal teams to keep transactions on schedule through closing.

Before joining the firm, Jose held senior legal, compliance, and governance roles with multinational companies, international law firms, and global nonprofit organizations. His experience spans Canada, the United States, Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe, and Asia, and he has worked across jurisdictions and with multicultural teams. His background includes anti-money laundering, regulatory compliance, data protection, and legal and compliance support for crypto asset businesses, digital asset service providers, and other digital financial services providers.

Jose holds a PhD in Law from Universidad de Salamanca and an LL.M. from Universidad Francisco de Vitoria, complemented by specialized studies in international business at Universidad Complutense de Madrid. He is currently pursuing an MBA with a concentration in Artificial Intelligence and the Digital Environment at Universidad de Vitoria-Gasteiz. He holds the Certified Data Privacy Solutions Engineer (CDPSE) certification from ISACA and the Anti-Money Laundering Certified Associate (AMLCA) certification from FIBA and Florida International University. He is fluent in Spanish and English and has professional working proficiency in Portuguese.
